Helping the refugees in Baton Rouge
Currently our family is ministering to some refugees here in Baton Rouge. We are teaching basic English to those that want to learn. We are in great need of money and help. These people have limited time before they are on their own. They have roughly 6 months to learn our language, get a job, learn to drive, and so on. We are trying to raise support from churches or individuals, who will either donate money, or work as a church to support a family. Our desire is to see one church take on one family/person. That church would be responsible for helping them in English, finding a job, child care, and most things we take for granted. These are very needy people right now. Most are afraid of what will happen when the six months comes to an end. We believe this is an opportunity for the Church to work together and help people that are truly suffering right here in our backyard. Most of the refugees we are working with are from Burma. They are fleeing because most of them are Christians and are being pursued by the government. We feel it is our duty to help these people in any way possible, no matter how big or small. If you are a church and want more information click here. We also have a need for teachers. By teachers, I mean can you point to objects and say its name. This is not very difficult, it just takes time and lots of patience. If your church is not involved, you can still help out in many different ways. Please let us know if you want to help. Thank You.
